Brzesko fires
Throughout its history, Brzesko has experienced many fires. The chronicles mention those of the years 1635, 1660, 1678, 1723, 1786, 1792, 1854, 1863, 1876, 1880, 1885, 1890 and 1891. The biggest of these took place in 1904. The Dziennik Polski journal of 27 July, 1904 recalls: "330 out of 400 houses burned down and only 70 buildings survived. 3,000 people became homeless. Thanks to the efforts of troops from Tarnów and the Fire Brigades from Bochnia, Krakow, Okocim, Tarnów and Wojnicz, some public buildings survived, such as the Starost Office and the court. However, they did not manage to rescue the church, which burned down along with the presbytery buildings. The municipal office and the synagogue also fell prey to fire. No lives were lost. The fire started yesterday morning and resulted entirely from carelessness. The damage is enormous, though difficult to put into figures at the moment. "
