W 2003 roku, Ojciec święty Jan Paweł II podniósł Kościół szczepanowski do godności Bazyliki Mniejszej. Kościół ten nawiedzili m.in.; w 1978 r. Metropolita Krakowski Ksiądz Kardynał Karol Wojtyła, a w 2003 r. Legat Papieski Jana Pawła II, Prefekt Kongregacji Doktryny Wiary z Watykanu, Ksiądz Kardynał Joseph Ratzinger, dwaj późniejsi papieże.

Built in the years 1911 – 1914 after the design by Jan Sas Zubrzycki. Consecrated in1930. The temple of a basilica character was joined to the old Długosz church and constitutes one compact architectural block. Among the furnishings is Baroque epitaph, neogothic confessionals, and a hanging pulpit from 1920, neo-Baroque side alter dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus from 1927 as well as the alter setting having a character of a triptych with a 15 th century icon of St. Stanislaus. The presbytery is additionally decorated with three large stained – glass panels and neogothic stalls. In the years 2002- 2003, owing to the work and offers of local parishioners under the supervision of Parish priest Władysław Pasiut the church underwent thorough renovation and conservation work on the occasion of the 750 th anniversary of St. Stanislaus, Bishop Martyr canonization.
